Home' AtoZ Wedding Guide : 2009 Contents 5
Whether your partner got down on one knee and
popped the question, you broke with conventions
and asked him to be your husband or you decided
together the time was right, you are now engaged
and it is one of the most exciting times of your life.
Couples often choose to host an engagement party
for family and friends to mark this special occasion,
but before you open the champagne there are a few
things you have to do first.
You need to inform both your families about your
engagement. Once they know, you will need to choose
who will make up your bridal party and invite them
to be a part of your wedding.
After your close family and friends have been
informed of your engagement, it is time to let your
other relatives and friends know. It is also customary
to make an official announcement in the newspaper.
With the engagement party approaching, one
question is sure to be asked; when is the big day?
Even if you don't have an exact date it is important to
choose a general timeframe so you and others know
an approximate date. It is important to note that it
is customary for those invited to the engagement
party to attend the wedding, so it is a great time to let
people know when it will be.
Make sure you plan all the food, drinks and
entertainment for the engagement party well in
advance so all you have to do is relax and enjoy the
evening. Have fun being surrounded by the ones you
love and celebrate this new step in your life as you set
about becoming husband and wife.
